Announcer-Barney Sheridan
Barney Sheridan grew up in Tucson, Arizona. Spending a lot of time on the Quarter Horse Ranch that was in his family. He learned the Rodeo way of life at an early age. A move from Arizona to Western Montana in 1990 put him right in the middle of the way of life that he grew up with. A radio career that started in 1982 prepared him for the time that a stock contractor friend asked Barney to announce a local Rodeo in 1996. That led to 100’s of amateur, high school and college rodeo performances. Barney was accepted as a member of the PRCA in 2004. When asked about the difference between Pro Rodeo and the amateur ranks, his son Cody had the best response. “After watching his hero Trevor Brazile win the Tie Down Roping there was a big fireworks display. Cody looked over at me and said Dad, Pro is A Lot better!” When the PRCA comes to town it is something special. These are the very best rodeo athletes in the world, both 2 and 4 legged athletes. “I am so grateful to be a part of it all, it is one big family, to the fan it is a rodeo, an event, to us it is a reunion, a great big family get together”. Barney’s wife Tara usually is at home keeping an eye on the Quarter Horse operation and the AKC Australian Cattle Dogs (Blue Heelers) that the family breeds and raises. “It is simply a dream come true, Rodeo, Ranching, Fly Fishing in my spare time, it just doesn’t get any better than this”. Barney has been the announcer at the Energy Town Pro Rodeo in Gillette Wyoming, the ProRodeo in Miles City, Montana, the Great Northern Stampede in Havre Montana the ProRodeo in Bowman North Dakota as well as the 2005 Turquoise Circuit Finals and 12X at the Big Sky Regional Finals College Rodeo. Barney has appeared at 20 to 25 rodeo performances per year, and now exclusively works at PRCA ProRodeos. It’s Nice now that People are really starting to notice, getting the chance to work some of the bigger rodeo’s not only in the Northwest, but we will be heading into New Mexico, and Arizona, It will be nice to get back to the country where I grew up.
